Hey Band!!!!
Ohkay, let me just remind everyone first:
Although we get a Silver for this year's SYF, we still have another 2 years to try and get that Gold which Damaiwindz has never gotten before
And, I seriously did not think that our efforts were wasted
Because of the many many practices that we had the past months since last year, we managed to maintain our Silver
I, the leaders and Mr Wong plus the other people who supported us really think that the band had put in all their effort in their playing just now
In my heart, this band will always be a GOLD to me because i really really think that you guys have put in all your very best
However, we have to respect whatever the Judges had decided
So, I dont want anyone to be demoralised or depressed because of the results
Although, you may have played wrongly just now, all that belongs to the past and is of no use crying over it
Its like the phrase "Crying over a Spilt Milk"
....!
So, now , for the next band prac which is on this Friday, i want everyone to come back with the same spirit as we had before SYF
Its time for us to guide our juniors as they would also be the ones who would take part in the SYF 2011
For all the Graduating Members, i do hope and Encourage you guys to come back often to help your juniors after you step down from band.
If you want Damaiwindz to get a Good Medal next 2 years, then this is the chance to train the Juniors till they are better than us!
Ohkay, so I dont anyone to give up now
We have to keep living on People!!
The world is not ending yet so there's still a chance to see that shining GOLD!!!!!
So, no regrets for the SYF ohkay?
You guys had really done a GREAT job :D
I will make sure that everyone SMILE and be HAPPY and GAY on Friday's Practice ;D
Omairah
Dont Worry, Be Happy :D !!!

*You Guys Would Forever be a Gold in my Heart no matter What <3*

Whats DOWN Band!!
haha
ohkay
very lame .... !
Anyway, i hope you guys BENEFITTED from the Jacob de Haan session just now
Its a very very very rare opportunity to be having a session with the Composer of the Choice Piece
So, i hope it had really given you a very good learning experience
And Please, lets together try to React to what Mr Wong wants rather then react only to people whom we are not familiar with XD
FYI, SYF is in another 5 days and we are left with 4 more practices
Lets use this time to improve further
We are still not very good yet
And all those praises that you get just now, please do not be SWELL-HEADED
I repeat, We are still NOT GOOD yet
theres still lots more room to improve
mainly on our:
1. Texture
2. Phrasing
3. Togetherness
4. Confidence
We are already somewhat very good in our Technicals but what is really lacking(as you all expertly know) is our Musicality.
Like what both Mr Wong and Jacob de Haan said, in order to be able to play musically, we have to first SING the phrases with all the dynamics and articulations plus the PULSING.
By doing that, you would have a clear view of how its supposed to be played
Your singing does not need to be intune, so long as you get a clear picture of how the phrase should be expressed like.
For starters, you would want to try singing chords with your friends and try to balance with each other.
And, if you do it seriously and really listen to each other, you will then realise how nice a simple chord can sound like just by singing and balancing with each other
So, try this out and it need not be a complex chord, just a simple one like F A C
Plus, Tomorrow is a COMPULSORY morning sectionals for Every Member
So, please come, cos SYF is in less than a week and we need eveyone's support and determination!!!
And always always remember those 7 points
I hope its already etched in your mind
If you havent, please do memorise it now and understand that you HAVE to obey them in order to play good music :
1. No wrong fingering/Pitch or notes(remember, you owe me 3 sets because of this)
2. No wrong Rhythm or Tempo(We tend to lose ourselves in the piece when too excited)
3. Pulse must be Obvious(still, our band needs more of this)
4. Entries or Exits when playing must be hidden
5. Tuning is Individual's Responsibility
(whenever you think that you are out, just stop playing and adjust to make yourslef intune.Dont blurblur continue playing if outoftune. You would affect the band's sound and the next thing you know, im about to murder you!!!)
6. WoodWinds to DOMINATE Brass and Percussion(Always remind yourself that we are a WIND band not a BRASS band)
7. Avoid OOT and OOBB(another major-will-be-going-minor problem for our band)
So these are the 7 points.
Treat it as if they are Rules for Music
Once you disobey any of them, You know who would be chasing after you!!
Ohkay, i guess you guys are tired reading this post but i REALLY REALLY hope that you can play with more confidence next time.
Dont always look down on yourself.
And as what Jacob de Haan, we must have FAITH in ourselves to have confidence.
Many people know that this band is good but its just those little things that is making them different from the good bands out there
Remember, PeiXing band(correct spelling??) which is a PRIMARY school band can get GWH when playing RossRoy
so, if little kids can do it, why cant us Young Adults not do better??
so, everything is just a matter of Determination and Faith
no wonder our school motto is FAITH hope and charity
Anyway, enough of me typing.
Please do well in everything you do, not only in band but also your studies
Omairah

Hello.
Please note that we would be having the master class with Jacob De Haan tomorrow, and thus, make sure you all attend tomorrow practices. Oh and, for Sec.2s since you finish school at 1.30pm, you are to assemble at 2pm. While for Sec.3s and 4s you are to be present by 2.45pm. Jacob De Haan would be coming at 3pm, so for the sec.3s and 4s you would have to get a full recess/ a quick lunch after you are released and quickly go for band by 2.45pm as you'll have to do warm up before he comes.
See yoouu.....
:-)

Hell-O
Haha..... !
Anyway, regarding your playing just now during the practice, i am rather IMPRESSED by it :D
Ohkay, so let me tell you the good points about your playing just now:

- Quite Relax
- Tone colour is there
- I can hear the Harmony People at some parts
- Dynamics at some parts were played nicely :D

But, there are still bad points such as:

- Overblowing(Eupho, Trumpets)
- Slowing down(Horns, Saxes)
- Underblowing(Woodwinds)
- End of phrases were still not clear and clean yet.

so, we have to get rid off these bad points in order to be able to play Music
There's still NINE more days to SYF and 6 more practices
We still have time to improve on what we are lacking if we concentrate now
Like i said, regret now than regret later.
Panic now then Panic on the Stage.
The key to improving is by playing in a relax way and just keep focusing on the parts that you cannot do
I have GREAT faith in you guys cos i know that You can do it
so, lets do the Nike way : Just Do It !

And, one more thing, Remember to mark your scores on which bar to bring up or bring down your instrument because Appearance is worth 10% of the total marks for SYF.So, take the chance during combined band or during sectionals to practice on your section's appearance ohkay!?

Plus, always remember the Triangle/Sound Hierachy ohkay :D

HELLO.
i found this website its an online metronome, kind of cool....
You can try playing the songs using this metronome thingy if you brought back your instruments, or you can just sing your parts using the metronome as a guide to make you be in time. Its kind of good way to improve your tempo..... (since its one of our weak points...)
