Whats DOWN Band!!
haha
ohkay
very lame .... !
Anyway, i hope you guys BENEFITTED from the Jacob de Haan session just now
Its a very very very rare opportunity to be having a session with the Composer of the Choice Piece
So, i hope it had really given you a very good learning experience
And Please, lets together try to React to what Mr Wong wants rather then react only to people whom we are not familiar with XD
FYI, SYF is in another 5 days and we are left with 4 more practices
Lets use this time to improve further
We are still not very good yet
And all those praises that you get just now, please do not be SWELL-HEADED
I repeat, We are still NOT GOOD yet
theres still lots more room to improve
mainly on our:
1. Texture
2. Phrasing
3. Togetherness
4. Confidence
We are already somewhat very good in our Technicals but what is really lacking(as you all expertly know) is our Musicality.
Like what both Mr Wong and Jacob de Haan said, in order to be able to play musically, we have to first SING the phrases with all the dynamics and articulations plus the PULSING.
By doing that, you would have a clear view of how its supposed to be played
Your singing does not need to be intune, so long as you get a clear picture of how the phrase should be expressed like.
For starters, you would want to try singing chords with your friends and try to balance with each other.
And, if you do it seriously and really listen to each other, you will then realise how nice a simple chord can sound like just by singing and balancing with each other
So, try this out and it need not be a complex chord, just a simple one like F A C
Plus, Tomorrow is a COMPULSORY morning sectionals for Every Member
So, please come, cos SYF is in less than a week and we need eveyone's support and determination!!!
And always always remember those 7 points
I hope its already etched in your mind
If you havent, please do memorise it now and understand that you HAVE to obey them in order to play good music :
1. No wrong fingering/Pitch or notes(remember, you owe me 3 sets because of this)
2. No wrong Rhythm or Tempo(We tend to lose ourselves in the piece when too excited)
3. Pulse must be Obvious(still, our band needs more of this)
4. Entries or Exits when playing must be hidden
5. Tuning is Individual's Responsibility
(whenever you think that you are out, just stop playing and adjust to make yourslef intune.Dont blurblur continue playing if outoftune. You would affect the band's sound and the next thing you know, im about to murder you!!!)
6. WoodWinds to DOMINATE Brass and Percussion(Always remind yourself that we are a WIND band not a BRASS band)
7. Avoid OOT and OOBB(another major-will-be-going-minor problem for our band)
So these are the 7 points.
Treat it as if they are Rules for Music
Once you disobey any of them, You know who would be chasing after you!!
Ohkay, i guess you guys are tired reading this post but i REALLY REALLY hope that you can play with more confidence next time.
Dont always look down on yourself.
And as what Jacob de Haan, we must have FAITH in ourselves to have confidence.
Many people know that this band is good but its just those little things that is making them different from the good bands out there
Remember, PeiXing band(correct spelling??) which is a PRIMARY school band can get GWH when playing RossRoy
so, if little kids can do it, why cant us Young Adults not do better??
so, everything is just a matter of Determination and Faith
no wonder our school motto is FAITH hope and charity
Anyway, enough of me typing.
Please do well in everything you do, not only in band but also your studies
